day one

Happy 2011 all!  My husband and I spent our first NYE celebration with a baby at home, drinking homemade bellinis and cringing at NKOTB + BSB performing in Times Square.  I had some grand plans of taking pictures of our son in front of our soon-to-be-mulched Christmas tree this morning, but the overcast lighting made our normally dark house resemble a cave.  Not to be swayed, I stripped him down a la New Year's baby, and let him have fun on our bed.  I have some really cute shots, including one where he is completely face-planted into the sheets, with his derriere pointing straight up, but this looked more blog-appropriate.

Using kit lens 18-55mm, Aperture Priority mode, f/stop 5.6, ISO 800

I mentioned before that I would be fiddling around a bit with Camera Raw and Photoshop CS5, in general.  I figured out how to make a basic watermark, yay!  He is getting over a nasty cold as well, so I attempted the Spot Removal tool in Raw around his left nostril.   However, I am wondering if I am saving my files correctly as jpegs, after adding the watermark.  This image looks noticeably crisper in Bridge, and even as a preview in Windows 7, sigh.  Well, part of the reason I am writing this blog is to improve my skills and increase my knowledge base, so any and all constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated!
